The new Macrame Hoop Series

As I started working more with colorful threads, I just can't stop making more and more of them! From 1 big hoop earrings, to 3-hoop necklaces, to now a macrame hoop bib necklaces and bracelets. They are so delightful to make, to wear and to look at.

Alright folks, I'm sorry for being absent since the craft show on this blog. My mom came for a visit and I went to some really impressive locations with her, which I'll update you in the next blog post. But here are the accumulation of treasuries in May - definitely a feast to the eyes. Enjoy!

Coming soon - Rose Bracelet by Harlequin&Lionhead

OK, here comes another design for Harlequin&Lionhead! The last big rose received a lot of compliments but as I'm still working on bringing it to the commercial world, I thought it may be easier to introduce one that carries small roses like my current collection.

Turned out, this is hard! I spent a whole day making this bracelet and at one point the blue wax got really soft the bracelet broke into 4 pieces and it was almost impossible to put it back together. So after a few melt downs and fixing, the bracelet somehow changed shape to whatever it is now. And it finally stablized. I guess the roses didn't like how they looked before? I do though :(  oh well...we'll see how this looks when it comes out from casting!

So someone asked me this question earlier. How come the wax shown in my previous posts are different in colors?  Green is the hardest wax, followed by purple, blue and pink. I use green mostly to create structural piece, like the little roses or rings. The blue ones are mostly used to make models out of molds. Today I use the blue wax as well for the base of the bracelet as they are more flexible to work with (which is also why it broke so many times ~_~). We usually use purple wax for carving. Pink as sheet wax.

Look again, this is wax!

Yes, this is a black rose made with wax. It's my first attempt at making a big sheet-wax rose. It's pretty realistic looking in its current wax form it actually looks like a corsage.


Inspired by Philip Treacy's Rose hat which appeared recently on Project Runway, I want to make a large full bloom rose bracelet. The flower is made of sheet wax, and the band will be in the form of a rose stem with one thorn. The final piece will be cast in sterling silver with oxidation to mimick blackness of the real rose.


Working with sheet-wax is not that easy. It softens with human body heat and hardens in room temperature. With uneven temperature on the same sheet, the wax is easy to crack or form fold line.


The one I have is 20G (over 1mm thick). To create the pedals with the natural edges, I mold the wax into thinner layers. The problem however, is that when wax model is thinner than 1mm, it's hard for precious metal to form successfully during the casting process.


Another problem is that the piece will become heavy with metal. This flower is under 2 inches wide in diameter and about 1 inch tall. As it is, the bracelet in sterling silver will weigh over 50grams! Of course, that also means it will be an expensive piece! But then again, what's a bit of weight on your wrist for a really beautiful piece of statement jewelry ;)

Well, we'll see if I can overcome these issues somehow. I'm still working on it and I'm hoping to finish it next week. Meanwhile, a collection featuring small roses are being done. I'll see how my baby looks like on Thur and if it works out, I'll update you with the picture of both the wax and metal pieces in the coming post!

The new "Window to the Sea" bracelet is available

Earlier I posted about the Window to the Sea bracelet in my blog (see here).

The amazonite stones were out and the bracelet was sold out. But, I brought it back with an updated version using icy mint color jade and gold vermeil findings. Take a look at the new bracelet! I think it looks even more elegant. What do you think?

The well-received Window to the Sea bracelet is sold out. But no worries, another version is coming soon.

I received orders from one of my fav customers off Etsy and sold this last bracelet. Yesterday I went hunting for the stones from my usual suppliers but so far unfortunately, I have not been able to source the same stone, which is aqua blue amazonite.

BUT I found the same floral shape cutting with jade.



So a minty green version with gold findings will be available. I'll bring it back to my Etsy store later this week or early next week. Stay tuned!
