The artist behind my avatar

Some of you who have known me for awhile know me with this image as my avatar. A few close friends would know that this is an image very close to my dear old friend Toffee, who passed away in 2009.

Well little did I know when I found this image on the internet, that it is actually a drawing by Mary Richmond, an artist who has a shop on Etsy. Well, today I was contacted and sadly this little guy will retire from representing me (illegally :P) but I will be able to buy a print of it soon so I'll always see Toffee, or whoever was the model, on my desk for a long time to come.

Thank you Mary for painting this beautiful critter ;)

Treasury post for June

Here comes the eye candy!
My curation of some really interesting and beautiful pieces...

Well, this particular treasury is quite close to heart recently. I curated collaborative work on Etsy in this one. There are more of it if you search by the word "collaboration" on Etsy but a few to keep you inspired. A specific note to the Stick Me "Art is us" sticker book. There are actually 2 of them by now, featuring 16 illustration artists in the most adorable form.
A must see!

This one is for the summer! A highlight is the 3rd one on first row.
It's by Yaelfran showing you how to tumble! So much fun.

I love illustration as you probably can tell by now :P
So this one is for you artists and graphic designers out there.

This is a quick one for the new 5 Boroughs Team members in May.
I will try to make one for June soon ;)

OK, treasuries featuring my work...

This one is by Tyramade, featuring my "Seaside" coral necklace.

This is by BrianWT108, featuring my "Fireworks earrings - Holly".

This is by SistasJewelry, featuring my latest macrame hoop earrings, "Mandarin Tree".

This refreshing treasury is created by MamaBetsy again! It features my "Lantern" earrings.

Last but not least, this is created by Jascamille, featuring my "Persimmons" earrings.

Remember, more to come and look for "Treasury" tag to find these postings from June onwards.

Treasury update!

One of my favorite type of blog post - great work online that deserves attention!

From time to time I post "treasuries" curated by others that include my work, or my own curation of other talented people's Etsy listings. From now on I'm going to add "Treasury" under tag, so it will be easier for you to search on my blog. For older posts, try the "Recommendation" tag.

Happy reading!

Blueberry - Lamp work glass bead earrings

Via Flickr:
Delectable blueberry is served.

This adorable pair of earrings is inspired by the food art of Japanese desserts. Fruity delight is crafted in a bundle of sweetness, hanging from a simple chain like blueberries ready to be picked.

The blue bead is a lamp work glass bead measuring about 0.4 inch in diameter, and about 0.3 inch thick. The earrings hang about 2.375 inches long.

Behind the scene - Photoshoot

So this week has been crazy for me. I got 25 new product listings at my Etsy store and that means I have photographed and retouched about 120 pictures. There was no time for rest after my craft show, and I still have to prep for my wholesale/consignment line sheets, go for a couple interviews, and come up with a brand new line for Harlequin&Lionhead...in addition to trying to find a driving school and get that out of the way this summer. I am both exhausted and excited!

Back to the photoshoot, how did I do it? Well I do have my trusty assistants to help out. You may have read about them in my earlier blog posting. But isn't it funny to see them at work again? If only my pet rabbit Charcoal could help hold the camera while I pose but he said he was too busy...oh well.

L'Amore - Gemstone and Ribbon Necklace

Via Flickr:
This necklace is dipped in colors of nature. Natural shades of purple, pink and grey are matched with forest green. It is pastel and dream, like the feeling of love.

The large green stones with patches of purple are Dumar Stones. The elongated stones in pinkish purple and reddish green is Imperial Jasper. The round coins are Mookite. They are strung together with double strands of green silk cords, and finished with sturdy pink ribbons.

The stones will vary slightly in shape and color every time I make a new one. I only have limited supply of these stones as you can imagine they are not the most common stones in market.

The stone portion of the necklace measures around 18 inches. Ribbons are about 20" long each.
Approximate sizes of the stones -
Dumar: 1.25"L x 1"W
Imperial Jasper: 1.5" to 1.25"L x 3/4"W
Mookite: 0.5" diameter

Macrame, it's complexity and delicate beauty, is the inspiration for this series of contemporary jewelry that you can wear with everyday outfits, but extraordinary in itself.

Macrame is a form of textile-making using knotting rather than weaving or knitting.

This series features colorful cotton or silk knots on a circular hoop to create earrings and necklaces. They represent a beautiful marriage of ancient and modern, threads and metal, soft and hard.
