Necklaces

Necklaces are statement of a person. It's usually where eyes got caught when you first look at a person with accessaries.

For wearers, you want your necklace to compliment your outfit, not overpowering it. So to me, wearing necklace is always kind of a power struggle between what you want to project in the first impression, and the harmony with the overall look. So with necklace, I usually stay with gemstones which are all quite unique in its own. And I like to play with lampwork glass as well. My recent fav is to play with ribbon-tied necklaces. Not only do they look somehow more romantic (make you feel like ballerina!) but also more flexible. I explored a few pieces which you can wear in a few different ways.

I usually like necklace being a little less chunky compared to bracelets so it's more flexible for different outfits.

But at the same time, I love using materials with more personality so despite the more subtle combination, my necklace can still represent my individuality. I usually stay with gemstones which are all quite unique in its own. And I like to play with lampwork glass as well.

Earring Inspirations

Of the different types of accessories, earrings are the most versatile and so I tend to play up the whimsical elements in earrings.

I create my earrings based on things around me so you can say they are miniatures of my happy dreams.

You will see some of these earrings can be matched with the bracelets. If you chose to, you can wear them together but I like to mix and match different pieces. I'll be looking at putting up on suggestions soon so stay tuned.

The day is bright

Selling online means you don't get to see the response of your customers. You don't get to see how your creation looks like on another person. But today, I have a chance to feel the joy.

Not only did I got a few sales, I also have the luxury of hearing my customer said "I really like this...it's so pretty I want to wear it right away..."

Seeing my jewelry on someone else makes me feel quite proud, and at the same time like a mom at your child's wedding.

Every piece I make shares a little dream of mine, and carries a special memory of injecting a condensed dose of imagination into a small thing. Now connecting the dots from where I was with the raw materials to where it is now on a happy customer really makes everything clear. This is what jewelry making is all about. It's creating happiness and satisfaction. It's like making chocolate and desserts. It's not a big deal, but things like these help the creator and the customer really enjoy life better.

Earlier I started doubting my ability to create something that makes people smile like I do when I'm making them. It's hard because you feel like you are running a virtual shop and no one knows about you. Different people heart your shop and nothing came out from these activities. Do they not like what they see? Am I not selling at the right price so people can feel good buying it? Is it because they don't feel the jewelry as how I want them to project?

Sometimes it's the little "thank you" that makes life brighter. A day like this becomes extremely precious in the struggle of selling your work. It's not even the revenue - in this economy, it's probably the last thing I can expect - but the encouragement.

Jewelry making to me is sharing a dream. And today I'm hopeful that I can continue this dream.

More on bracelets

Of all the accessories a girl can throw on herself, bracelets to me are the most interesting. It's an eye-candy for both the wearer and the people who look at the wearer. Because of that bracelets are almost a self-fulfilling medium - you see people in certain religion wear special strings around their wrists, specific cultures would choose to put a bracelet on a new-born's wrist...etc.

That's why I believe bracelets are important representation of yourself than a piece of accessory. And because of that, I'm particularly in love with the Blueberry Fields bracelet that I introduced in my first posting earlier. It is a very subjective matter so it's hard to pin-point why I like it so much.

I have one myself and I wear it to every conference I need to go and present work in my advertising day job. And I'm sad to say that I have recently misplaced the piece and I hate to have to make a new one to replace it. A bracelet like that is made differently everytime. Depending on how the weight distribute and it's very whimsical...I may eventually bring it back in its second life if I don't find it in the next week or so at home... :( I hope it has a good home if I lost it outside.

Anyways, I made a sister version of it with fractured crystals and you can see it here. A different feeling somehow from the purple/blue one that glitters like crazy in light. This one is a subtler version and the character comes from the various tiny cracks inside the cyrstal ball.

The other one I really like is The Bracelet of Mermaids made of agate chips. I discovered the agate guitar picks and just fell in love with them. They are semi-transparent and light, making them very delicate looking. And each one has its unique pattern and color which is like fingerprints. When the picks hit each other on my bracelet they make crispy sound. I adore them! I'd say my bracelets are on the slightly chunkier side but bracelets should be fun!
